Welcome! & Monday 6/17 Update

Welcome to my new blog!  I'm looking forward to using this platform to give weather updates, in addition to what you'll see on air on Local 6.  This will allow be to able to go a little more in-depth than what I can share during a 3-minute weathercast, as well as provide a place for you to check out some of my favorite weather links.  I'll link these blogs to my Facebook fan page, or you can subscribe to receive new blogs by email.

Onto today's forecast update....the series of thunderstorm complexes we've deal with over the past few days continues this morning, as a weakening MCS is falling apart over SEMO & S. IL.  We'll continue with a chance for showers and thunderstorms mainly north of the Ohio River through midday, then should get a break from rain chances for a good deal of the afternoon.  Temperatures will be tricky to forecast today, with considerable cloud cover holding numbers in the 80's for most of us.  The farther southwest you head, the better the chances for lower 90's.

By tonight, a cold front will enter the picture from the west...here's a look at the projected surface map at 1AM tonight:

Scattered showers and thunderstorms will be possible ahead of the front this evening and tonight, with the entire Local 6 area continuing to be included in a slight risk area for severe thunderstorms...with hail & damaging winds being the main concerns.

Behind this front, we'll notice significantly less humid air arriving by Tuesday afternoon.  Dewpoints currently running in the upper 60's and lower 70's will drop to the lower 60's tomorrow.  This drier air such hold on for a day or two, before humidity levels increase again by Thursday or Friday.  Skies will be mainly sunny from tomorrow afternoon through the end of the week, as high pressure dominates the scene.

Looking ahead to the Fourth of July weekend, mid 90's look likely for Friday & Saturday...perhaps heat index values up around 100.  Another cold front sags south by Saturday & Sunday...looks like a weak one at this point, but it could spark an isolated storm or two, and cool us down by a couple degrees.
